CASTLE DALE – Ramal D. Jones, age 74, passed away in his home with his family by his side on Sunday, May 19, 2013 in Castle Dale, Utah. Ramal was born June 1, 1938 in Price, Utah and raised in Castle Dale, Utah. He joined the Army in 1957. He then joined the US Navy in 1959 where he served on the USS Swordfish Nuclear Submarine. In 1960 while in New York going to nuclear power school, he met his sweetheart Carole Corrigan. They were married on the US Navy Base in Honolulu, Hawaii on April 11, 1961.
He was well known in his community as the “dinosaur man” and was well known around the world for his dinosaur discoveries. He invented a machine for finding dinosaur bones, he was an avid outdoorsman, and he loved taking his sweetheart to the desert where they discovered two dinosaurs. Camping, hunting, fishing, or just family reunions with his children Katherine and Keith, the grandchildren and great grandchildren, are the things that meant the world to Ray. His great grandchildren brought him the most joy at the end of his life. He loved his family dearly.
He is survived by his wife; daughter Katherine Jones of Castle Dale; son Keith (Mollie) Jones of Huntington; seven grandchildren, Cory Roach, Savannnah (Justin) Cottam, Jason Jones, Staci (Jared) Bertagnolli, Heather Jones, Tyler Dasch, and Deryka Dasch; five great grandchildren; three sisters, Kelly (Marty) Peters, Judy (Mike) Murdock and Pat (Frank) Ellison; brother Kenny (Bobbie) Jones; and Junko Magaki, an exchange student considered family. He was preceded in death by his mother Marjorie DeFriez, brother Dennis Jones and father Lamar Jones.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Castle Dale Stake Center at 11 am. A viewing will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the Castle Dale Stake Center from 6-8 p.m. A viewing will also be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral.
