A power outage occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. June 9, affecting the cities of Ferron and Clawson in Emery County. According to a Rocky Mountain Power representative, the cause of the outage was an equipment problem at the Ferron substation.
When it was determined that the outage would continue into the next day, Emery County Sheriff’s Office personnel responded on Sunday night to begin checking on residents in Ferron and Clawson.
Contact was made with Emery County Care and Rehab to ensure the facility had a sufficient backup power source. Extra patrol was assigned to the area throughout the night, and residents were encouraged to check on their neighbors, the elderly and those with functional needs. Contact was made with LDS Church leaders, the local Baptist Church, and the Emery County Senior Citizens Center to identify those who might need assistance during the outage.
Emery County School District offered freezer space in their facilities that had power, and Emery County Special Service District was on standby with their pumps to refill culinary water supplies if necessary.
On Monday morning, personnel continued checking on residents. A Code Red (reverse 9-1-1) message was sent to residents in Ferron and Clawson. The Ferron Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) was called out to assist the Sheriff’s Office in delivering ice and checking on the elderly.
Rocky Mountain Power crews worked around the clock in an effort to restore power, and kept the Sheriff’s Office updated on their progress. It was initially estimated that power would be restored by 6 p.m. Monday, but crews were able to restore power at approximately 11:15 a.m.
