GREEN RIVER-John Vetere Jr., age 82, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at his daughters home while surrounded by family in Kaysville, Utah. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother returned home to his Father in Heaven after battling dementia for the past 18 months.
He was born Sept. 21, 1930 in Green River, Utah, the son of Giovanni Vetere Sr. and Mary Sacco. John married his sweetheart Bonnie Faye Bigelow on May 25, 1956. They just celebrated 57 years of marriage.
John lived life to the fullest. He was a hard working farmer and the longest standing member of the Eastern Utah Cattlemen’s Association. Everyone loved and admired his personality and unprecedented work ethic. The most important thing in his life was spending time with his family and friends. He loved his country and served in the Army during the Korean War, earning two Bronze Stars. He was a friend to many and a hero to all that knew him.
John is survived by his wife, Bonnie Vetere of Green River; four daughters and one son, Carrie Vetere (Rex), Candice Vetere Brien (Butch), John Cory Vetere, Carmen Vetere, Crystal Vetere Halphin (Dave); brother, Jay Vetere of Green River; sister, Ida Vetere Ryan of Valencia, Calif. 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister, Charlie, Louie, Frank and Rose Politano; two half sisters, Elena and Jean.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, June 20, 2013, 11 a.m., at John Vetere’s Ranch, (615 N. Hastings Road) in Green River, Utah. Vigil service will be held at Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) in Price, Utah Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. The family will greet relatives and friends at Mitchell Funeral Home and at the Vetere Ranch Wednesday and Thursday one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Elgin Cemetery in Green River following the service. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of John at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
The times we were able to spend with John will always be cherished. An amazing man who will truly be missed by so many!
