Huntington prepares for rodeo/Heritage Days

By GARY ARRINGTON Staff Writer

Heritage Days, Huntington City’s annual celebration will begin their weeklong run this weekend with the annual Heritage Days rodeo at the rodeo arena. Scheduled for Friday and Saturday nights, this year’s kickoff event should continue with all the excitement of past rodeos.
Next week, Heritage Days entertainment will fill the city’s pavilions with music as four acts will grace the stage over three days. Tuesday night will see the Val Jensen group of local entertainers fill the night with music at the annual dinner in the park scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm.
Wednesday night, in conjunction with annual free ice cream social, the group “No Limits” will entertain. The group returns this year by popular demand after a successful concert last year. The group “Firefly” will entertain us all on the stage Thursday noon time.
Something different this year will be music filling the air at the rodeo grounds prior to the fireworks show. This popular Utah county group will play popular rock music at the rodeo pavilion starting at 7:00 p.m. and all are invited to get a little closer to the fireworks and enjoy the music.
At the June meeting of the Huntington City Council, it was also discussed the Huntington may be getting the county’s first stop light. A recent UDOT traffic study says that the corner of Main Street and Canyon Road has enough traffic to warrant a light. This could be in place by the end of the summer.
The Huntington mayor reappointed all council people to their current assignments for the next year.
The Mayor also appointed Mark Justice, Julie Jones and Gary Arrington to the Master Plan committee. Their first emphasis will be on a recreation plan. In a presentation, Arrington presented an architect’s drawing of a new concession stand along with new bathrooms at the city park. The plan utilizes a structure currently used for storage on the site as the park is made bigger and fills the area currently unused.
