Community Impact Board approves more than $1.3 million to fund Southeastern Utah AOG projects
The Utah Permanent Community Impact Board (CIB) approved $1,319,000 in grants and low interest loans for projects that will benefit Southeastern Utah AOG communities in Carbon, Emery, Grand, and San Juan Counties during a regularly scheduled funding meeting held in Bryce Canyon City, on June 13.
Monticello City, received $600,000 as a $300,000 grant and a $300,000 loan for 5 years at zero percent interest for airport improvements.
“The repairs to the Monticello City airport are long overdue,” San Juan County Commissioner Bruce Adams who represents Southeastern Utah Association of governments said. “Additions like the snow removal building, pilot lounge and wildlife fence will go a long way to attracting pilots to this airport.”
Other CIB-funded improvements for Southeastern Utah AOG communities approved include:
$30,000 grant to Green River City, for an utilities master plan
$289,000 grant to East Carbon City/Sunnyside City, for water system improvements
$400,000 grant to the Grand County Transportation Special Service District for the purchase of SITLA road easements.
The Community Impact Board awards grants and low-interest loans to cities, towns and counties impacted by mining and the extraction of oil and gas on federal land. Projects funded by the CIB benefit rural Utah by creating safer, more livable communities.
The program is managed by the Housing and Community Development Division under the Utah Department of Workforce Services.
