Joanne Penovich, our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away on July 13, 2013 at age 80 surrounded by her family. Joanne was born February 24, 1933 in National Utah to Joseph and Katie Penovich.
She attended schools in National, Spring Glen, and graduated from Carbon High in 1951. She started to work at the Sunrise Cafe after graduation, loved the work especially the contact with the people throughout her work career at Jeanselmes, working for Dr. Sam Oliveto and Ricardo’s (Never wanting to leave Carbon County). Her fondness for fishing and hunting started at an early age with her twin brother, Joe Penovich Jr. fishing and hunting in Beaver. Her love for fishing continued throughout her lifetime. Joanne also enjoyed bowling, Wendover trips, reading, word search puzzles, and family dinners.
Joanne loved being with her family. Her grandchildren were the highlights of her life. To know Joanne and love Joanne was a privilege. If you were to ask anyone in the family who taught them to fish, the answer was always Joanne/Aunt Joanne.
Joanne is survived by her daughter Billi Jo (Jeremy) Crockett, grandsons Mason, Braden and Jesse of Smithfield, Sisters Katherine “Babe” Winters of Delta, Betty (Paul) Wheeler of Price, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents (Joseph Sr. and Katie), Brothers (Bob and Joe Jr (Barbara), Sisters (Ruth David) and Aggie (Frank Jr.), life partner (William Hinkins), her grandsons (Matthew and Camden), Brother in law (Lester Winters) and nieces Debra Kay Winters and Rose Marie Dillon.
