Jared Haddock is the organizer for the Crandall Canyon Memorial Half-Marathon on July 27. “We want to keep the memory of the Crandall Canyon miners alive. We all believe in what they did for us. This is one of our smaller marathons. We couldn’t do it without the help of the Emery County Sheriff’s Office deputies that keep the runners safe and the volunteers at the water stops along the way.” Organizers invite everyone to come out and participate or watch the race. Former Emery County Sheriff LaMar Guymon is still involved with the organization of the race and helps to keep it going. The Crandall Canyon Mine disaster was on Aug. 6, 2007 and this year will mark the sixth anniversary of the tragedy.
The Crandall Canyon Memorial half-marathon, 5k and 10k, will be held on July 27. Packet pickup will be at Huntington City park the morning of the race at 5:15 a.m. Runners will be bused to the start of each race and back to Huntington City after the races. In order to increase the comfort of the runners and decrease traffic on the course, the buses will depart at 6:15 am.
