An ATV accident claimed the life of a Price teenager Saturday evening as he rode with a friend in Huntington Canyon. Levi Armstrong, 15, reportedly rolled his four-wheeler at approximately 9 p.m., in between Miller’s Flat and Joe’s Valley, sustaining fatal head injuries despite the fact that he was wearing a helmet. Armstrong’s passenger was also a minor. “There is a sharp corner as you leave Miller’s Flat and they just rolled right there,” explained Armstrong’s mother, Kym Melo, 37, of Price during a telephone interview Monday. “We know he was wearing his helmet but we don’t know if he had it fastened properly.”
Melo reported that Armstrong’s helmet had come off during the crash and stressed the importance of fastening protective gear correctly every time a person rides.
“We want to make sure people know how important it is to wear a helmet and wear it correctly,” she said. “We want to do anything we can do to save others from a tragedy like this. Levi was such a brave and wonderful young man, he will be truly missed.”
Armstrong’s family and close friends transported him through Fairview Canyon after the accident because cell phone service was unavailable. As they reached the bottom of the canyon, the group was escorted by Sanpete County Sheriff’s Deputies to Mt. Pleasant Hospital. Armstrong was pronounced dead on arrival by hospital authorities.
