Many exciting events happened at Cleveland Days Saturday, July 20. Throughout these events Jamie Jensen the Cleveland City Secretary was seen almost everywhere making sure things were in order and working well.
Saturday morning started with a 5 K Color Run. The Color Run is to make people aware of the problems caused by alcoholism. Each runner as he or she crossed the finish line had colored chalk dust thrown on him or her. Later at the Cleveland breakfast it was easy to see who had participated in the Color Run.
Ben and Amanda Baldonado of Price with three of their six children participated in the Alcohol Awareness Color Run.
Participants in the 5 K Color Run Ted and Kelly Luke of Orangeville were seen eating the great Cleveland breakfast.
On the street by the Cleveland Park were Mike and Jen Clark’s Inferno Pizza Trailer. This was a firebrick oven for making pizza. The oven was heated with wood logs.
Brady Powell son of Gardner Powell of Cleveland and his new Blue Ford Mustang V8 parked in front of the Cleveland Park.
The Ryan Powell family all climbed upon a four-wheeler at the park for a photo.
The children’s parade started with a rush of boys and girls on bicycles racing down the street. Next came mothers and fathers guiding their little ones as they paraded down the street. The expressions on the faces of some of the children were interesting.
The Mayor’s Cleveland Parade started with the National Guard carrying the national and state colors followed by a World War II motorcycle with a sidecar and a machine gun.
Next came Jasper the little old Cleveland Fire Truck driven by Owen Olsen carrying the flags and a load of children. Owen Olson’s fire truck was followed by the four Cleveland Fire Trucks.
The Emery High School Band marched down Main Street resplendent in their yellow and black uniforms playing marching music for the large crowed lining the street.
Cleveland’s Royalty was displayed on a beautiful float with red, white, blue and silver trim.
The Miss Emery Royalty float held the Miss Emery royalty.
The Heritage Days float of purple and white with 10 neatly dressed young women was outstanding.
The United Mine Workers put in an impressive appearance with many members dressed in light green T-shirt swalked in the parade. They wanted protection for their health care, pensions, mine safety and jobs.
Cleveland’s honored citizens were Shen, Verla and Gus Jensen.
During the parade three airplanes from the Huntington Airport flew over the length of Main Street.
Near the end of the parade the Emery High School Cheerleaders performed.
The children along the street were anxious to pick up any candy thrown out to the crowd from the floats.
After the parade other events took place in Cleveland’s City Park.
One of those events was getting an aerial photo by one airplane of a crowd of people lined up in a large circle in the park. Then two other airplanes flew over the park and dropped ping-pong balls. Those recovering a ping-pong ball were able to turn it in for a free ice cream cone.
Sherrel Ward was in charge of the circle for the photo and the games and races in the park. One of those exciting races was that of toddlers being pulled in a laundry basket by a mother or grandmother.
After lunch there was coed softball, horseshoes, and Concessions by Cindi Avery L’il Country Store in the School Yard.
In the evening there was free music for dancing furnished by Mohr sound and at dusk Cleveland presented their outstanding fireworks display.
