Clinton Rowland (Rollie) Thompson passed away of natural causes at the age of 83 at his daughter’s home in Green River, Utah on July 21, 2013.
Rollie was born to Rowland Pierce Thompson and Pearl Hanks Thompson on April 7, 1930 at Price, Utah. He married Mary Jean Dumas on Feb. 28, 1951 and they were sealed in the LDS temple on Oct. 9, 1964. Jean passed away on March 31, 1999.
Rollie is survived by four children: Connie Copenhaver of Green River, Utah; Ted (Larette) Thompson of Salt Lake City, Utah; Sharon (Richard) Seely of Green River, Utah; Lucinda (Mel) Bartz of New Harmony, Utah. He was predeceased by his son, Clinton Rowland Thompson, Jr. Rollie was blessed with 21 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by an aunt, Charlotte Hanks (Jack) Erwin, a brother, Wilmer (Lila) Thompson, sisters Larata Audette, Boneta (Richard) Delong, Donna (Bob)Shearer, and dearest friend and desert-roaming companion Barbara Anderson.
Rollie graduated from Green River High School. He worked at Kennecott Copper for a few years, then moved his family back to Green River. He worked in the uranium mines in southeastern Utah until the opening of the White Sands Missile Launch Site in Green River in the early 1960s, where he was hired as Maintenance Supervisor. He also supervised the building of the Blanding Launch Site, Utah, Ticaboo, Utah, and Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho.
A viewing was held on Friday, July 26, at the Bible Church in Green River, Utah beginning at 9 a.m. The funeral was at the same location at 11 a.m. Burial at the Elgin Cemetery on Hastings Road. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Bible Church.
