Emery High seeks community council member

By By

The Emery High School Community Council has an opening for a parent member and will be accepting candidates through Friday, Aug. 2. To qualify, candidates need to be the parent or legal guardian of at least one Emery High School student during the 2013-14 school year or the 2014-15 school year. Terms of office are unlimited.
Emery High School currently has five parent members, not including the membership opening, while there are four members from among the school’s faculty. State law requires that there be at least two more parent members than employee members.
The EHS Community Council meets quarterly during the school year and is responsible for managing the school’s Lands Trust budget and writing and approving the school’s annual School Improvement Plan and Professional Development Plan.
If more than one qualified candidate is interested in the Community Council position at Emery High, an election will be held during high school registration Aug. 12-13-14. At that time, parents and guardians will have an opportunity to cast their votes. If no candidates come forth, the existing Community Council members will appoint a new member by majority vote.
Those interested in running for the EHS Community Council position need to contact Principal Larry W. Davis by phone at 381-2689 or by email at larryd@emeryschools.org. The deadline to apply is 5 pm on Aug. 2.
