PRICE-COOK, Paul Whitney, born April 28, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Earl Cook and Fern Fautin. Died Aug. 5, 2013. Graduated from Springville High School, Springville, Utah in 1944. Immediately after graduation he joined the United States Navy, where he served as an Electrician Mate on the aircraft carrier Franklin D. Roosevelt, during World War II. After 26 months of military service he received an Honorable Discharge. Upon return to civilian life, Paul attended Utah State University, Logan, Utah. While at Utah State University, Paul learned the then state-of-the-art process of making ice cream mixes, which he would use throughout his business career. He used this knowledge first by working making ice cream mixes for his father’s businesses; and later in his own ice cream business. Paul also courted his soul-mate and eternal companion, Patricia Taylor (Pat), while at Utah State University. Paul and Pat were sealed in marriage at the Salt Lake City Temple on August 26, 1947. After working for his father making mixes, Paul and Pat started their own business, Cook’s Velvet Freeze, in Price, Utah. Later, Paul would also own and operate the Comet Drive In in East Carbon, Utah and the Gas-O-Rama in Helper, Utah. Paul was in business for almost 50 years. Paul conducted himself with honesty and integrity. During that time he provided first jobs to many hundreds of young people where they learned the value of hard work and the joy of receiving a first pay check. Paul loved being in business and made many friends. He was active in civic organizations including the Price Lions Club for some 60 years. Paul loved the Lord. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served as: Counselor in two Bishoprics; Elders Quorum President; High Priest Group Leader, teacher and home teacher. From 1992-1993 he and his dear wife Pat served a full time couples mission in the Ventura California Mission. Paul had many hobbies. One of his favorite hobbies was gardening. Paul loved growing flowers and would often deliver bouquets to the Church, his friends and acquaintances. He was a good neighbor and generous man. Paul also loved the outdoors, he spent many enjoyable hours with his family, extended family, and friends at his “little cabin by the lake” in Scofield, Utah. Many generations of his descendants have and will have joyful memories of time spent together there. When Paul retired at the age of 71 he took up the hobby of flying, and occasionally crashing, his radio control planes. The most important things to Paul were his dear loving companion, Pat, his family and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Paul leaves behind his beloved wife, Patricia; his children and their spouses: Barry Paul Cook (Julee), Keven Taylor Cook (Rhonda) and Catherine Cook Kirk (John). He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren with three more on the way. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters and their spouses: Marjean Giraud, James R. Cook (Patsy), Earl Kaae Cook (Yvonne) and Kaaren Okey (John). He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Price LDS 7th and 8th Ward Chapel (995 East 700 North.) A viewing will be held on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013 from 6 -7 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price (680 East 100 South) and also on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment will be held in the Price City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Family and friends may sign the guestbook and share memories of Paul at www.fausettmortuary.com.
