The Emery High girl’s tennis team finished the regular season by winning both of their final matches and then the Spartans participated in the region match and had both doubles team qualify for the 2-A state tournament this weekend. Emery defeated Gunnison on Sept. 19 by the score of 3-2 and then last Tuesday, Emery defeated Parowan by that same score.
Emery’s first doubles team of Banner Fauver and Savannah Woolsey won both matches. The score against Gunnison was 6-0, 6-1 and against Parowan the score was 3-6, 6-2, 6-0. It took a minute against Parowan to get up to speed and start playing but when they did, it was all over.
Emery’s second doubles team of Ashleigh Robinson and Brittany Fortner also won both of their matches. They defeated Gunnison 6-1, 6-0 and Parowan 6-0, 6-2.
Emery’s third singles player Tina Lacock also won both of her matches. She defeated her Gunnison opponent 6-3, 6-2 and her Parowan opponent 6-3, 7-5. Emery’s first singles player Lydia Wilke and second singles player Madelyn Carter lost both of their matches. At region, both of the doubles teams finished second in region and will travel this week to Salt Lake City and play in the state tournament that will be held at Liberty Park.
The singles players did not make the cutoff.
