Green River heads to quarterfinals on Oct. 8

After winning their final four region contests, the Green River Pirate baseball team begins 1-A state play today in Spanish Fork at the high school against Piute.
Green River and Piute split two contests they played this year, Piute won the first 12-5 and the Pirates won the final 5-0.
Green River went on the road and defeated Manila 10-7 and 20-10 and then played in Price against Pinnacle and won those two games 13-3 and 11-1.
Nate Cox led a team in the final four games that saw the team score 54 runs after collecting 60 base hits with 23 of those going for extra bases.
Cox, in those four games, had three doubles, two triples and a home run.
Eight other Pirates also hit for extra bases in those games.
Spencer Marshall had three triples in the second game against Pinnacle and a double and a triple in the first game against Manila. Joe Serafin had a triple and a home run against Manila and Nick Corrigan also hit a homerun.
TJ Hughes had a double against Manila and two doubles against Pinnacle. Tyrell Shumway had a triple against Pinnacle in the second game and a double and a triple against Manila in the second game.
Also having extra base hits were Chance Pfander with a double, Jon Mendez with two doubles and Kyle Johnson with a double.
In the other three quarterfinal games Wayne will face St Joseph, Wendover will play Tabiona and Tintic will play Panguitch.
All games are at Spanish Fork High on Tuesday and UVU on Friday-Saturday.
