The new miners memorial is nearing completion and the unveiling will take place on Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. This monument is at the Huntington cemetery adjacent to the Crandall Canyon Miners memorial.
Boyd Wilson had the idea and vision that he would like to see all the miners who lived in Huntington or died in a Huntington Canyon mine honored.
He welcomes everyone to come to the event on Friday to see the new stone and to remember those who have died in the mining industry from the town of Huntington/Lawrence. He especially encourages those who have family members or those who knew the fallen miners.
Patrick Braun has carved the names in the granite for the new monument. Huntington also has plans in the near future to add a veteran’s memorial at the cemetery.
Mayor Hilary Gordon has been very supportive of the miners project and sees the need to remember those who have given their lives so the lights can stay on in our country.
Everyone is welcome to come to the unveiling ceremony. There will be refreshments served along with a short program.
