Sjors passed away Nov. 20, 2013 peacefully in his home at Orangeville, Utah at the age of 69 (just in time to be with his Mom for her birthday). He was born July 29, 1944 in Haarlem, Holland. He immigrated to America when he was 3 years old with his parents Leo and Tina Van Zyverden and sisters, Helena and Sytske. Later two more sisters, Nora and Katie, joined the family. He grew up in the East Millcreek area and graduated from Olympus High School. He then joined the Air Force and served honorably for two years after which he served for 16 more years in the Army National Guard. He fulfilled an LDS mission to the Central States mission. He worked in the Deer Creek Mine. He was also a volunteer firefighter and an EMT. He then worked for Pride Trucking and became an independent long hauler. He had a heart of gold, he loved animals, he was a great artist, and was a strong hard worker. He always gave the BEST hugs. He was a wonderful, protective brother and if you needed anything he would be there.
In 1969, he married Ranetta Howard and had five children, Corstiaan, Zanetta Sanchez, Servaas, Sjors, and Onnajohn. In 1982 he married Deanna Grange and had one son, J.L. Van Zyverden. In 2003 he married Shirley Luker, who had three children, Becki Jorgensen, Ben Partis, and Kyle Partis and had 19 grandchildren. He lived a good and productive life. We thank Shirley for being a wonderful, loving, caring wife who gave him many happy years. He will truly be missed by all who loved him.
A viewing was held Monday, Nov. 25, 2013 at the Heritage Funeral Home in Huntington, Utah from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Orangeville Second Ward, 1st South and Main in Orangeville, with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
