Green River boys win two at Sevier Valley Center

Last week the Green River Pirates boys’ team traveled to Richfield and played two games at the Sevier Valley Center and came home with two victories. On Friday, the Pirates defeated Milford 60-42 and on Saturday they defeated Wayne 47-38. Jon Mendez had two good games as he led the team in scoring in each game with 23 points.
The Lady Pirates also played two games last week, the first against the bigger Grand High and the second against Tabiona. Grand defeated Green River for the second time this season although this score was much closer. Final score was 56-41. Green River then played Tabiona, also for the second time this season, and won this ball game 41-28, also for the second time this season.
For the Lady Pirates, Sydney Thayn led the team in scoring against Grand with 18 points while Kira Engleman led the team against Tabiona with 15 points.
Also scoring in the win were Savannah Williams and Presley Lovato with 8 points each and Thayn and Cassidy Bastian with 5 points each. Also scoring in the Grand game were Taylor Johnson with 10 points, Engleman with 9 points, Williams with 2 points and Lovato and Robin Nelson with 1 point each.
Also scoring for the boys in the Milford game were Nick Corrigan and TJ Hughes with 11 points each, Chance Pfander with 7 points, Spencer Marshall with 4 points, Corbin Mecham with 3 points and Nathan Cox with 1 point.
Also scoring in the Wayne game were Hughes with 13 points, Marshall with 5 points, and Corrigan, Pfander and Mecham with 2 points each.
This week the Lady Pirates play Altamont at home while the boys travel to Grand on Thursday night.
