By GARY ARRINGTON Staff Writer

In Huntington City’s final city council meeting of the year, the Council took time to thank retiring Councilman Jeff Cowley for his service to the city over the past few years. Cowley, who has been over beautification, has done a good job of serving the residents of Huntington according to each of the other council people.
Mayor Hilary Gordon thanked all those that had helped with the annual Christmas dinner. The dinner was held at the fire station this year after many years at the elementary school and apparently everyone liked the change. Many residents hung around for a long time visiting with friends and neighbors.
Councilperson Gloria Wilson reported that 75 runners participated in this year’s Turkey Trot held Thanksgiving morning. Many residents and visitors came out on this really cold morning to run in the 5K race.
The City adopted an ordinance that more clearly defines the approaches given to property owners when new curb and gutter is installed throughout the city. This should help for future greatly for future construction.
The City held a public hearing that was required by CDBG, a government funding agency. Councilperson Julie Jones read the required information as part of the public hearing. The council then commented on various improvements and the public had their opportunity to comment.
The short meeting was then adjourned and the city employees, council and mayor attended a city dinner party at the town hall.
