Second ranked Spartans pick up easy wins
The second ranked Emery High Lady Spartans took their record to 9-2 with a pair of easy wins last week. As the team’s shooting percentages have increased, the wins have been easier to come by and the games have been over sooner rather than later.
Emery defeated Parowan on Tuesday night in Castle Dale by the score of 56-28 but at one point in the third period the score was 41-12. On Thursday night, Emery began the region season by hosting San Juan and the Broncos went home after suffering a 55-33 defeat. Emery led this game 36-13 at the half.
Hannah Dyer had a hot shooting hand last week as she scored in double figures in each game. Dyer had 10 points against San Juan and 19 points against Parowan. Thirteen different players scored in the Parowan game and nine different players scored against San Juan as the coaches substituted early and often in both games. Against the Broncos, Emery had inserted four new players into the line-up a couple of minutes into the second quarter as the fans already knew the game was over.
Also scoring against Parowan were Camrey Johnson with 6 points, Ashton Bell and Cassidy Labrum with 4 points, Bailey Rasmussen, Kelsie Cox, Kambrie Hinkins, Emily Olsen and Patyn Jeffs with 3 points with Ashlynn Allred, Bayler Griffin, Jessica Mason and Jessica Olsen scoring 2 points.
Also scoring against San Juan were Allred with 9 points, Rasmussen and Labrum with 6 points, Cox, Hinkins, Emily Olsen and Jeffs with 5 points and Johnson with 4 points.
Emery is ranked behind North Summit in the state rankings. North Summit has a perfect season record at 9-0. Delta follows Emery with Beaver in fourth place.
Emery will continue region 15 action this week as they travel to North Sevier on Tuesday night and then host South Sevier on Thursday evening.
