Green River teams 2-1 in region play

Both Green River High basketball teams stand 2-1 in region play after each played three games last week. The boy’s team defeated Monument Valley 77-69 and Navajo Mountain 92-40 after losing to Monticello 56-48. The Lady Pirates defeated Monticello 46-40 in overtime and Navajo Mountain 60-44 but lost to Monument Valley 51-42.
Jon Mendez led the team last week as he scored 18 points against Monticello, 24 points against Monument Valley and 5 points against Navajo Mountain. Against Monticello he also had 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals while he had 12 rebounds against Monument Valley. Also scoring against Monticello were Chance Pfander with 13 points, TJ Hughes with 9 points, Spencer Marshall with 6 points and Nick Corrigan with 2 points. Scoring against Monument Valley were Hughes with 17 points, Marshall with 13 points, Pfander with 10 points, Corrigan with 8 points and Tyrell Shumway with 5 points.
Fourteen Pirate players scored against Navajo Mountain including Marshall with 20 points, Pfander with 11 points, Hughes with 8 points, Corrigan and Shumway with 2 points, Austin Moore with 14 points, Corbin Mecham with 10 points, Jovani Flores with 6 points, Logan Spadafora with 5 points, Joe Serafin with 3 points and Colton Davis, Karson Nelson and Nathan Cox with 2 points each.
Taylor Johnson led the Lady Pirates to their 2-1 record last week. Johnson scored 16 points and pulled down 14 rebounds against Monticello, scored 9 points, had 19 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals against Monument Valley and 16 points and 14 rebounds against Navajo Mountain.
Also scoring against Monticello were Kira Engleman with 10 points, Sydney Thayn with 8 points, Presley Lovato with 6 points, Savannah Williams with 4 points and Robin Nelson with 2 points. Also scoring against Monument Valley was Thayn with 12 rebounds, Engleman with 4 points, Lovato with 5 points and Williams and Nelson with 6 points.
Also scoring against Navajo Mountain were Thayn with 14 points, Lovato with 7 points, Williams with 6 points, Nelson with 1 point, Cassidee Moore with 10 points, Cassidy Bastian with 4 points and Justice Hadfield with 2 points.
The boy’s team will play at Whitehorse this Friday and will host Grand this Saturday. The girls will play Pinnacle at home this Wednesday and at Whitehorse this Friday.
