In the first-ever 2-A Utah State swim meet, the Emery High boys and Emery High girls each finished second in their division as the Spartans had their best state finish ever.
After having competed in the 3-A ranks for years, the Activities Association finally staged a meet for the smaller schools with swim teams and North Summit edged the Emery girls and Rowland Hall edged the Emery boys for the respective championships.
Laryssa Guymon was the lone state champion for either team as she won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:11.16, two and half seconds faster than the next racer. Guymon finished second in the 200-yard individual medley and swam on two third-place relay teams.
Spencer Fauver led the boy’s team with two second place finishes. Fauver was second in the 50-yard freestyle and in the 100-yard freestyle. Fauver also swam on the 200-yard medley relay team and the 400-yard freestyle relay team. Each team finished second.
