Richfield, UT – Robert Earle Potts, M.D., 81, passed away Feb. 19, 2014 in Richfield. He was born April 2, 1932 in Culver City, California to Clarence William and Dorothy Irene Moore Potts. He married Marilyn Shaffer, later divorced. He married Joan Friese, later divorced. He married Jonnie Boden, later divorced. He married Rauna Hansen, later divorced. At last, he married his soul mate, Patsy Lee Manwill, in 1998 in Richfield.
Many of you called him Bob, Doc, Doc Potts, or Robert; but to his children we just called him Dad. Dad went to Harvard in 1953 and left his studies to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy as a Corpsman from 1953-1957. When he returned from the Korean War, he finished his studies at the University of Louisville, where he fell in love with family medicine. An avid skier, Dad worked for the Nordic Valley Ski Patrol in the 1970’s. During this time he also championed for the EMT’s in the state of Utah to have an official training. These first trained EMT’s dubbed themselves “Potty Trained”. He loved aviation and flying his plane from Castle Dale to Ogden, he loved model trains and anything to do with the great American Railway. Dad was a selfless man of service, always putting others first; a Christian man of amazing faith, a medical examiner, veteran, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He left an indelible mark inside everyone he ever met with his sharp wit and amazing sense of humor. To say he will be missed is an understatement.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy, of Richfield: children: Scott (Shelli) Potts, Bradley Potts, Jon Parsons, Sarah (Cameron) Pearson, Rebekah Potts, Rachel Potts (fiancé Michael Doty), Shoshanna Potts, Kristie (Darrin) Anderson, Chanley (Sabrina) Olcott, Kassie (Travis) Howe, Mary (Hank) Girardi, Tisa (Ric) Bertolaccini, Shellie (Joe) Petty, Matthew Dudenake; 23 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Preceded in death by parents; step-parents, Irene Dennison & Edwin Kangas; daughter-in-law Jodi Potts; brother, William “Billy” Potts.
