Emery High baseball had two region games last week and they continued their impressive run through the opposition by defeating Grand in Castle Dale 12-0 and then followed that win up with a victory at North Sevier by a score of 12-1. Against Grand, junior Dillon Wilstead was the starting pitcher and started the game off by striking out the side in the top of the first to set the tone for the entire game. Wilstead added two more strike outs the next inning on his way to striking out 10 batters in the five inning game. All three outs in the third inning by Grand were also strikeouts. Wilstead gave up four hits in the game but no walks and no Grand base runner got past second base.
In the bottom of the first inning, Ridge Nielson batting leadoff for Emery, started things off with a walk. Ethan Tuttle followed with a walk and got picked off trying to steal second base. Tyson Roper doubled to score a run with Gavin McDermott then hitting a homerun to score two more runs.
Wilstead then got on base followed by Drexler Tanner also getting on base. Brayden Burke was then hit by a pitch and Tanner Lake walked before Nielson was up for the second time in the inning and this time Ridge hit a double to score the last of the seven runs the Spartans scored that inning.
Emery added a run in the second inning after Roper and McDermott each singled with Roper scoring. Emery added four more runs in the third inning. Burke led off with a single with Marco Mota following with another single. After the next two batters grounded out, Tuttle ripped a triple to score a pair of runs and Roper followed with a single to score Tuttle. Roper was the last Emery score of the inning and he scored after McDermott and Wilstead each singled in their final at bat in the game.
