The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Utah Canyon Country Fire Zone and Price Field Office are seeking comments on an environmental assessment (EA) analyzing the potential impacts of hazardous fuels reduction on 59,498 acres southeast of Price, Utah in the Cedar Mountain area.
The proposed Cedar Mountain Fuels Reduction and Vegetation Restoration project would thin Pinyon-juniper stands in heavily-wooded areas using a variety of treatments, including mechanical shredding, hand thinning and piling, and prescribed burning. Additionally, re-seeding in some areas would support ecosystem health and improve wildlife habitat. Project completion would reduce the potential for a catastrophic wildland fire in the treated area.
Additional information about the proposed project is included in the EA, which is available for a 30 day public review and comment until May 15, 2014. Written comments will be accepted by letter or email until May 15, 2014.
