Emery/Green River track

The Green River High track team traveled to Price last Saturday and competed in the Carbon Farm Bureau Invitational track meet. The Pirate boys scored 14 points and the Green River girls scored 9 points.
The best finish of the day by a Green River athlete was Tyrell Shumway’s second place finish in the javelin. Corbin Mecham was the only other individual boy to place as he finished sixth in the shot put.
Taylor Johnson placed in two events. Johnson finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdles and then finished eighth in the long jump. Cassidee Moore finished sixth in the 800 meter run. Both the girls’ and the boy’s 4×100 meter relay teams placed. The boys placed sixth and the girls placed eighth. The boys’ team consisted of four of the following five athletes; Kyle Johnson, Jon Mendez, Tyrell Shumway, Joe Serafin and Ab Mendoza. The girls’ team consisted of Savannah Williams, Justice Hatfield, Cassidee Moore and Taylor Johnson.
The Emery High track team traveled to St. George last weekend to compete in the Dixie High Invitational. The Emery High girls’ team finished seventh out of 13 teams, mostly bigger schools.
Ashlynn Allred continued being one of the top sprinters in the state as she won both the 100 meter and the 200 meter races. Her time in the 100 was 12.43 and in the 200 was 25.37.
Sophomore Paytn Jeffs also had a good meet as she won the high jump with a jump of 5 foot 3 inches and placed third in the long jump with a jump of 15 feet 4.25 inches.
Erin Hurst was the only other Spartan to score points for Emery as she placed eighth in the 3200 meter race.
Justan Potter scored the only points for the Emery boys with a seventh place finish in the high jump. His best jump was at 5 foot 9 inches.
Emery High is hosting the Darrell Gardner Invitational this Tuesday at the Emery High track.
