HELPER- Our wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great- grandfather, loving friend and artisan craftsman, John Benash, age 91, peacefully passed away on the morning of April 17, 2014.
John was born Aug. 26, 1922 in Trinidad, Colo. to Ernest and Santa Sibich Benash. They raised him in Silverton, Colo. and it was a part of the country he loved his entire life.
John married Marge-Margaret Elizabeth Sliskovich on April 23, 1945 in Bremerton, Wash. while stationed in the Navy. The two of them settled in Helper, Utah and immediately felt at home. John built a house on Duchesne Street, while he and Marge made it home with their three children, Ernie Benash, Price, Karen (Dave) Maynard, Sandy, Utah, and Jeanette (Corky) Strong of Price.
John was a WWII Navy Veteran. His life was defined by his love of family and his woodworking. To the end, John made time for the important things in his life. His house was always adorned with some new creation that he constructed with his hands out of wood in his shop. These things will be the items we will remember the most. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff of Parkdale Care Center, Symbii Home Health and Hospice, especially Rick Stockburger.
Preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Frank Tomsic.
At John’s request there will be no services. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of John online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
