HELPER, Carbon County – Alberta “Bertie” Rose Rolando died Monday, April 21, 2014, in Salt Lake City. She was 82. Alberta was born on April 24, 1931, in Sopris, Colo. to Frank and Mary “Dukes” Mazzarise Jerant. She spent her childhood in Southern Colorado and later moved to Helper Utah.
On Sept. 6, 1952, she married Joseph “Joe” Rolando at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Helper. The couple raised four children, and she always placed her family’s welfare first.
Alberta attended Notre Dame Catholic School and was graduated from Carbon High School, both in Price. She graduated as Registered Nurse from St. Benedict’s School of Nursing in Ogden in 1952. She worked as a public health nurse in Carbon County and for brief periods, she worked at the former Price and later Carbon hospitals in Price.
She served as president of the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church Altar Society and assisted the parish with many fund-raising activities.
Alberta is survived by her children, Joe F. (Jan) Rolando, Sandy; JoAnn M. Rolando, Sandy; R. Jean Rolando, Park City, and Marianne (Troy) Kale, Billings, MT; brother Frank A. (Sherry) Jerant, Sparks, NV; grandchildren, Jennifer M. Lyman, Julie A. Rolando, Matt D. Kale and Madison Jo Kale and great granddaughter Mandie Jan Lyman. Her husband and parents preceded her in death.
Vigil service was held Friday at 7 p.m. and Funeral Mass was held Saturday, April 26, 2014, 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Helper. Family was at the church one hour prior to services. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome daily and may share memories of Alberta at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net. Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in Helper.
The family would like to thank the staff at Wentworth at Willow Creek Assisted Living & Memory Care in Sandy and Silverado Hospice for their care of Alberta.
