With a win at San Juan last week the Emery High softball team finished second in region 15 for the season. Emery defeated San Juan 19-15 after scoring 13 runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat the host team.
Down 15-6 going into the seventh, the Spartans probably had their best inning of the season in defeating the defending state champions on their own field. Emery had 14 hits in the game including six for extra bases. Ashton Bell, Gentry Noyes, Makayla Clark, Taylor Payne and Kambrie Hinkins each hit homeruns and Hailee Beckstead had a double. San Juan committed seven errors to assist the Emery cause.
Emery then traveled to Carbon to play a non-region contest and Emery defeated the host team 15-2 in six innings. With the score 4-2 for Emery after four innings, the Spartans scored six times in the fifth inning and five times in the sixth inning to grab the win.
Emery had nine base hits in the game with every Emery starter having one. Noyes hit another homerun and Beckstead had another double for the only two extra base hits of the day. Amber Petersen led the team by scoring three times and by also having three RBI’s.
Emery will close out the season this week by playing three non-region games with two scheduled for Castle Dale. Emery will host Delta on Tuesday and Gunnison on Thursday and then will play their final game Friday at North Sanpete High. The following week the state tournament begins in Spanish Fork.
