The 2014 Utah State Track Championship meet takes place this Friday and Saturday at the Clarence Robinson Track facility at BYU. Emery and their region 15 partners held the region track meet in preparation for the upcoming meet last Tuesday at North Sevier High School in Salina.
Grand County High was the overall winner after winning both the girls’ and the boys’ halves of the meet. The Grand boys scored 171 points with San Juan finishing second with 162 points. Emery was third with 70 points followed by Wasatch Academy with 48 points, South Sevier with 28 points and North Sevier with 4 points. The Grand girls scored 166 points to outdistance North Sevier that finished with 104 points. Emery was third with 100 points followed by San Juan with 56 points, South Sevier with 55 points and Wasatch Academy with 4 points.
In the upcoming state meet, Grand will take 23 athletes to the meet and San Juan 15 while the Spartans will take just 11. North Summit will lead the way with 33 athletes and Delta will take 21.
The Emery girls won three individual events with Ashlynn Allred winning both the 100 meters and the 200 meters. Paytn Jeffs won the high jump. The Emery girls won the 4×100 meters relay race and the 4×400 meters relay race and both will be a factor at the state meet. Jeffs finished second in the long jump.
Also scoring points for Emery were Erin Hurst in the 3200 meters with a second place finish and in the 800 meters with a fourth place finish and Camrey Johnson, Hannah Dyer and Allyson Woolsey in the 400 meters where they finished second, third and fifth. Laryssa Guymon finished in second place in the discus. The sprint medley relay team finished in third place.
The Emery boys had several second place finishers. Ryan Cox finished second in both the 100 meters and the 200 meters. Jax Gardner finished second in the 300 meter hurdles while Justan Potter finished second in the high jump.
Also scoring points for Emery were Shem Guymon and Matt Mecham with fifth and sixth place finishes in the 110 meter hurdles, Cameron Allred and Beau Ivie with third and fifth place finishes in the 100 meters, Cameron with a sixth place finish in the 200 meters and Raymond Brazier in the high jump with fourth place finish.
Also placing were Nathan Potter with a sixth place finish in the shot put, and Ryan Cox and Beau Ivie with a fourth and sixth place finish in the long jump. The Emery boys 4×400 relay team placed fourth as did the sprint medley relay team. The 4×100 relay team finished second.
