The DWR brought 17,000 tiger muskies into Utah from Nebraska on May 6-7. The fish were placed in Utah waters that already have tiger muskies in them. The new arrivals will increase the number of tigers in the waters in which they’re placed. This will provide Utah anglers with even more chances to catch these huge fish.
The following number of tiger muskies will be stocked into the following Utah reservoirs. When they’re stocked, the fish will be one-inch long: Northern Utah:
Pineview (10,000) Newton (1,000) Northeastern Utah Johnson (1,000) Bullock (500) Cottonwood (500) Southeastern Utah: Joe’s Valley (4,000.)
To reduce the stress on the fish, the DWR stocked them as soon as possible either Tuesday night (May 6) or Wednesday morning (May 7.)
Calvin Black reported the tiger muskie came into Joe’s Valley at 1 a.m. on May 7. There were 4,000 1.5-inch fish, which were scattered along the shoreline.
It’s a busy time for the DWR aquatics department. They put out gill nets on Huntington North and they were pulled at Huntington North last week.
With regard to the wipers, Black said they included a number of age classes. The biggest fish was 21.5 inches and weighed 4.5 lbs. Next Wednesday, on May 14, Huntington North will be stocked with 30,000-40,000 more wipers.
These are fry and about a half inch long.
