The Emery High boys and girls track team competed in the Utah State Track Championship meet held May 16 and 17 at BYU. The Emery girls scored 60 points and finished third in the state behind North Summit and Millard. Those two schools had three times as many athletes entered in the competition. The Emery boys scored 21 points over the two day and the boy’s team finished in eleventh place out of eighteen teams.
Emery junior Ashlynn Allred won the 200 meters to be Emery’s lone state champion. She defeated Ashlin Blonquist of North Summit with a time of 24.67, a personal best for her. Blonquist ran the race in 24.92.
These two reversed places in the 100 meters as Allred finished second with a time of 12.15 behind Blonquist’s time of 12.10. This five hundredths of a second is less than a half a body width.
Emery had two other participants that placed in two events. Patyn Jeffs finished fifth in both the high jump and the long jump. Patyn high jumped 5’1″ and long jumped 16′ 1.25″ over the two days. Freshman Erin Hurst finished fifth in the 3200 meters and sixth in the 1600 meters as Emery finally scored points in the distance races.
Hannah Dyer finished sixth in the 400 meter race with a time of 1:01.39 and Laryssa Guymon finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 90″8.25″.
Emery also did well in the three relay races. The sprint medley relay team finished sixth while the 4×100 and the 4×400 teams each finished in second place.
The sprint medley relay team consisted of Jeffs, Camrey Johnson, Allyson Woolsey and Hannah Dyer. The 4×100 team consisted of Jeffs, Johnson, Dyer and Allred while the 4×400 team consisted of Woolsey, Johnson, Allred and Dyer. Officially the time for the 4×400 team was 4:06.89. The 4×100 team finished in 50.72.
Senior Ryan Cox finished in third place in the 200 meters for the best finish of the day for the team with a time of 11.50. Cox also finished sixth in the 100 meters. Jax Gardner finished in fifth place in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 41.89 and Justin Potter finished fourth in the high jump with a personal best jump of 6’1″.
The Emery 4×100 relay team consisting of Beau Ivie, Cameron Allred, Matt Mecham and Cox finished sixth in a time of 44.13.
