The 2014 1-A boys golf season came to a close on May 13 and 14 at the Southgate Golf Course in St George, with Rich High School edging Green River for the team title. Rich shot 732 over the two days while the Pirates shot a 737, five strokes back.
The Pirates held a 12-stroke advantage after the first day but the team could not hold the lead and ended up finishing second in state for the second straight season.
Chance Pfander was the Pirates leading golfer as he shot 172 over the two days and finished in fourth place as an individual golfer. TJ Hughes shot 187, Landen Fluckey shot 188 and Nick Corrigan shot 190. Nikolas Shaffer and Logan Spadafora also played but only the top four golfers had their scores count.
Green River was hoping to improve on last season’s performance but it was not to be. The team shot 360 the first day and then slipped to 377 the final day.
