The Lighthouse high school has a tradition of visiting Huntington Lake and floating their boats.
Not regular boats, but boats constructed by the students from cardboard and duct tape.
This activity is a reward for good behavior by the students and for getting good grades.
On this day Kayden Ledbetter and Tati’Ana Renfro thought a boat within a boat might float better and this was their strategy. If water does seep through maybe they won’t get wet.
The students worked on their boats for two days prior to being able to have the chance to see if they would float with the students aboard.
Some of the students worked in partners and some had as many as four people in the boat.
The activity was just for fun and friendly competition.
When it came time to launch many of the boats couldn’t make it out of the dock area. But, some continued to float as the students rowed out to the buoy and then back to the deck. Many of the boats took on water and dumped the participants out before they made it back to the dock.
After all the water fun, the students were treated to a catered lunch at the state park before gathering what was left of their boats.
