The Clawson City Council met for their monthly meeting on July 17. Danny Levering is placing a modular home in Clawson. It is a 1995 and meets all of the city requirements and is in good condition. Mayor Dean Allen issued a permit to Levering. There was a concern about non working vehicles being towed to the property. The city has an ordinance concerning non working vehicles and doesn’t want it to become a problem. Levering will be advised of the city ordinance.
In the financial report, the city will need to consider an increase to water rates for overages. The city receives no profit from water overages. All of the profits go to the special service district. The power bill is $435. The amount is for two months. There was $120 spent on lawn care. The bond is due. The money has not been transferred from Zions Bank to the credit union. The city is waiting on approval from the city attorney.
Councilman Gary Price gave his report. The special service district will soon gather a list of desired projects for each city. The list will include; some curb and gutters, repairing an exposed water valve, repairing a manhole cover, clearing a drainage blockage and getting sewer to the Gregersen home.
Councilman Jerry Price mowed the weeds. The Alex Boye concert was very entertaining. He looked into the cost of a backstop for the ball field and they are expensive, around $2,500. Councilman Jerry Price went to the ball complex in Huntington and the backstop there was not salvageable for use. He will contact Kash Winn and see if he could construct a backstop and the cost.
Councilman Larry Gregersen reported he attended the LEPC meeting.
Councilwoman Casey Reid reported the youth council had picked up trash in Clawson. There will be a CPR class in the coming weeks. The cost is $30.
Mayor Allen reported he will attend the next Association of Governments meeting to get approval for building repair. The city will have seven minutes to present their request to the AOG. There has been an ongoing effort to clean up a property in Clawson. The daughter of the property owner has cleaned up the property and it is much better.
In new business, the council will hold a public hearing next month to raise the water rates on overages. An ordinance will also be considered to vacate the city streets. There has been complaints of speeders. The Sheriff’s Office has been contacted and a deputy has been out. The county sprayed for mosquitoes on July 3. If you have a problem with mosquitoes you must call and ask for the area to be sprayed. There has been no water restrictions this year.
The annual Harvest Celebration will be Aug. 16.
