Charges have been filed against Dennis Jones the principal at Cottonwood Elementary. These charges stem from an incident in Orangeville on Aug. 6.
Allegedly Jones and his wife were involved in an argument at their home. The wife left the home and Jones apparently followed her. The two were arguing at Main and Center Streets in Orangeville. There were several witnesses to the incident. Emery County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the scene and Jones was taken into custody. Jones was booked into the Emery County jail. He has since bailed out of jail.
His wife has filed a protective order against Jones which the judge has granted. Mrs. Jones is also an educator in the county.
Jones, 63, was charged Thursday in Seventh District Court with possession of a dangerous weapon with intent to commit an assault, a class A misdemeanor, and assault, a class B misdemeanor.
Jones an employee of the Emery County School District has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of this incident. He has been the principal at Cottonwood Elementary for the past 17 years.
Jones will make an appearance in court on Sept. 16.
