Hayden, Linnsie and Tara Gage represent at least five generations of quilters. Their quilt was on display at the Emery County Fair. It was an underground railroad quilt. Hayden got the idea to do the quilt when he was reading a story with his grandmother about the underground railroad quilt. In the book, people would hang quilts on their clothesline to give slaves directions and messages. For example, the bear paws square would tell slaves to follow the bears trail through the woods. At the bottom of the quilt is a guide to all of the squares.
Tara said she hadn’t quilted in years until her daughter started quilting. The Gage family now does many quilting and sewing projects. They make Quilts of Valor for veterans. They just want to thank veterans for their service. They make surgery dolls, which are donated to Primary Children’s Hospital.
