Carbon County Sheriff’s officials have confirmed that a 15-year-old male was killed Saturday night while riding his off-road motorcycle in Wellington.
According to Carbon County Sgt. David Brewer, the Wellington teen was fatally wounded when the motorbike he was riding struck the side of a coal truck and trailer. The collision occurred at approximately 8:45 p.m. near the intersection of Ridge Road and Lower Middle Creek Road.
The teen reportedly made impact with the semi’s side panel when he attempted to use the shoulder of Ridge Road as a ramp, colliding with the semi in mid-air.
Following the initial impact, the motorcycle was pinned under the trailer and drug by the semi, said the release.
After being transported via ambulance and then flown to an additional medical facility for treatment, the Wellington teen succumbed to his injuries, said Brewer. As he was working at the scene, the Carbon Sergeant was not positive about the time of death, which facility the young man was taken to, or who provided air transport.
