Utah Valley University Community College Programs, UVU’s Community and Continuing Education Department, the Department of Workforce Services, and the Economic Development Corporation of Utah are sponsoring an employer symposium titled “Utah Certified Work Conference for Employers” on Sept. 10.
The free two-hour symposium is open to Utah employers and will be held at the
UVU Orem campus in the Sorensen Center, room 206 from noon to 2 p.m. Lunch and parking will be provided. Please register at uvu.edu/ce/workready. Space is
limited. Registration closes Sept. 8.
Conference participants will learn how to utilize the WorkKeys assessment to hire employees who exhibit work discipline, teamwork, service orientation and
managerial potential; improve corporate bottom line through skill-based hiring; and become a certified work-ready employer.
Tony Garife, American College Testing Economic Development Liaison, will give
the keynote address at noon. Randy Welsh from UTA will lead a panel of employers in a discussion about how Utah employers use the National Career Readiness Certificate and the WorkKeys assessment.
According to Garife, “ACT WorkKeys is a job skills assessment system that helps employers select, hire, train, develop and retain a high-performance workforce.
This series of tests measures foundational and soft skills and offers specialized assessments to target institutional needs. As part of ACT’s Work
Readiness System, ACT WorkKeys has helped millions of people in high schools, colleges, professional associations, businesses and government agencies build
their skills to increase global competitiveness and develop successful career
pathways.”
