The Emery High volleyball team finished preseason play be defeating Altamont 3-0 on the road and then Beaver 3-0. Region season now begins and as usual, Emery is playing in a really good region.
Last Tuesday, Emery traveled to the Uintah Basin and played the Longhorns. Altamont came out in the first game and really made a game of it before losing 27-25. That loss seemed to take the heart out of the host team and also seemed to wake up the visiting team as Emery won the second set 25-6.
Although the final game was a little closer, Emery was always in control as they won 25-18.
Emery faced Beaver, a team that usually plays the Spartans tough. Emery defeated Beaver 25-13, 25-11 and 25-12 as the Spartans played consistently throughout the night.
Emery now enters region play with two home games this week. Emery will face Grand on Tuesday and South Sevier on Thursday. Emery should be favored in both games but both the Red Devils and the Rams will be looking for the upset as they want to get their own season going well.
San Juan will be the favorite for another region title as they have played well early in the season. Emery should be able to battle the Broncos for the region title since they are a veteran team looking for more success. It will all start with the games this week.
