Friend to all; Loved by many
Murphy provided 11 years of dedicated volunteer service as a P.A.W.S. Volunteer for Active Re-Entry in many arenas – Price City Library, Wellington Elementary; local care facilities; and to Emery County Elementary students in many capacities.
He was never a fan of doing AKC Obedience work, although he did it because Nancy asked. He collected a number of titles and ribbons including RN, RA, RE, RAE and CD and the only title he did care about, AKC Therapy Dog.
In 2004, he received Price City recognition for Dedication to the Community.
He was the 2006 National Therapy Dog of the Year, winning the Gold Standard Award by the Golden Retriever Club of America for “acts that enriched, inspired and contributed to the lives of individuals and communities”.
Murphy proudly owned and manipulated the hearts of Nancy and Ernie Bentley and was a great mentor to his nephew Logan. He struggled for most of his life with many, many ailments, but you would never have known it. Every morning, including up to his end, he would get up and his attitude was always positive, wanting to go out to serve and help “his” kids.
He wanted us to make sure he thanked all of his “two-legged” admirers and thank those who loved him as we did. People often asked how we got him to wear all the costumes and do all the things we asked. It was simply because Nancy asked him to.
You stole our hearts with your smile. And all we can say is thank you.
