Emery football drops game at Judge Memorial

Last week Emery High Spartan football traveled to Salt Lake City to face the number one ranked Judge Memorial Catholic High School in a 3-A North region contest. Judge grabbed the early lead at 30-0 after the first quarter and then won going away by the score of 61-21.
Emery received the opening kick-off returned it to their 25-yard line. From there Emery moved the ball into Judge territory before the drive ended with a quarterback fumble. Judge then scored on a 15-yard run with 5:19 left in the period for their first score of the night. Judge then scored on a safety and three more touchdowns before the second quarter began.
Emery put together a 65-yard drive in the second quarter to score their first points of the night. A pass completion from Zach Jorgensen to TJ Lacock went for 28 yards and the score. Matt Mecham had gained 11 yards on a run to be the other big gainer of the drive.
Emery then scored once in the third quarter and again in the fourth quarter to get to their final score. In the third quarter, Emery scored on their first possession of the period on a 1-yard run by Cameron Petersen.
Emery started the drive at their 33-yard line and then marched the 67 yards into the end zone on 13 plays. Ashton Dieli gained 10 yards, Bryce Dugmore gained one yard with Dieli then gaining 7 more. Mecham went up the middle for 11 yards followed by another run for 3 yards. Dieli gained 3 and a penalty added 15 more. After two more runs by Dieli and two by Mecham, Emery scored.
Emery added their final score in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run by Dugmore. Emery started the drive at their 20 and then went 80 yards in nine plays to score. Three pass plays were the big plays of the drive. Jorgensen completed the first to Dieli for a 20-yard pickup and then completed the next play to Kolton Butler for 8 yards and then the next play was also to Butler, this time for 20 yards. Lacock kicked all three extra points.
Mecham led the team with 86 yards on 19 carries offensively and then led the team with 7 tackles defensively. On offense, Dugmore gained 29 yards on the ground with Petersen gaining 27 yards and Dieli gaining 22 yards. Jorgensen completed 5 of 13 passes in the game with Butler catching three of those for 42 yards. Other leading tacklers were Andrew Gilson with 5 tackles and Jaxson Winn with 4 tackles.
Emery will travel to Cedar City this Wednesday to face the Canyon View Cougars in a non-region match.
