The Division of Wildlife Resources conducted fall gill net surveys at several reservoirs in the area. Calvin Black reported on the findings of the surveys: Huntington (Mammoth) Reservoir: Numerous healthy tiger trout were netted out of Huntington Reservoir aka Mammoth. Tiger trout length ranged from 12 to 26 inches, with one fish weighing 6 pounds. Anglers should see great fishing this fall and into winter on the ice.
Cleveland Reservoir: I was pleasantly surprised to see how healthy the rainbow trout were in Cleveland Reservoir. Three size classes representing three different ages were collected during the fall gill net survey. Rainbow trout lengths ranged from 11 to 17 inches. Most notably two cutthroat trout were also collected that measured 17″ and 21″. The surprise of the day was the 23.5 inch 6 pound brown trout netted.
Joe’s Valley Reservoir: Overall all sport fish looked healthy with good numbers. Numerous splake were collected in the fall gill net survey. The splake were very healthy ranging in size from 14 to 25 inches, with most being around 18 inches and 1.5 to 2 pounds. Several nice cutthroat trout were netted, the largest being 24 inches and 5 pounds. Six tiger muskie were collected ranging in size from 32 to 35 inches and 8 to 10 pounds. The splake and cutthroat fishing will begin to pick up in the next few weeks.
Electric Lake: Nice tiger and cutthroat trout were collected in the gill nets. Fish sizes ranged from 13 to 19 inches and very chunky. No kokanee salmon were collected but we have received reports of anglers catching a few in the 12 to 14 inch range this summer.
