This Thursday the Green River Lady Pirates will host Monticello in the final region 19 volleyball of the regular season. The 1-A Utah State volleyball tournament then starts the following Friday at Utah Valley University as all classifications look to crown a champion. Monticello currently is undefeated in region action and will claim the number one seed out of region 19.
Green River defeated Pinnacle last week to gain their second region win of the season. The Lady Pirates won 25-17, 25-16 and 25-15. With the win, Green River is probably secured a place in the state tournament. Region 19’s top three teams make the state tournament while the fourth place team will have a playoff game with region 18’s fifth place team in order to qualify.
With some schools in southeast Utah slow at reporting their scores, it appears that Monticello is first in region with Monument Valley second with three reported wins. Whitehorse and Pinnacle score reporting is erratic at best and it appears that these two teams have either one or two wins each.
Putting on the Pirate uniform for the final time in the Pirate gym will be seniors Kira Engleman, Bailey Norman and Autumn Gardner. Besides these three seniors, the team includes four juniors, two sophomores and one freshman.
