SAN JOSE, Calif/ORANGEVILLE, Utah: Christopher Harrison Spencer, 46 passed away Oct. 19, 2014 in St. George, Utah after a mountain climbing accident in Zion’s National Park. He was born Nov. 20, 1967 at the Cottonwood Hospital in Murray, Utah, the son of Gerry DeMille Spencer and Janice Poland Spencer.
When Christopher was seven his family moved from East Millcreek in Salt Lake County to Orangeville, Utah, Emery County where his father worked for Utah Power and Light Co. A graduate of Emery High, he went on to graduate with a business degree from the University of Utah; then onto Utah State University where he received his MBA. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served a mission in the Belge de Brusalles (Belgium Brussels) mission which included the northwest coast of France and Calais. French was the language spoken. The mission presidents he served under were G. Perrin Walker and Earl J. Roueche. He was also an avid scouter and received his Eagle Scout Award.
Christopher worked for Fidelity in Salt Lake City, Utah and in San Jose, Calif. as a financial planner and also gave seminars on planning for retirement. He loved rock climbing, mountain climbing and ice climbing as well as photographing the scenery he saw, making many friends who shared his enthusiasm for climbing. He climbed Aconcagua, peak, Argentina the tallest mountain in the Western Hemisphere, Machu Picchu, Peru with his brothers and climbed in many of the U.S. National Parks.
Christopher is survived by his parents, his sister, Pamela Heaton (Brent) their sons: Spencer and John, sister, Catherine Zwahlen (Stephen) their children: Zachary, Ethan and Sophia, brother, Steven Spencer (Nona) children by first wife Christine: Michelle Spencer Stone (Garrett), Ethan Spencer, Step Children, Emerson Ayers, Quinton Ayers (Mercedes), Graham Ayers (Kimberly), brother, Nathan Spencer (Heidi) their children: Emily (on a mission in Chili), Kaitlin, Jacob, Alex and Savanah.
Funeral services were held on Sat, Oct. 25, 2014 at 11 a.m., in the Castle Dale 8th North LDS Chapel, 165 W. 800 N., Castle Dale. A viewing was held Friday, Oct. 24, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary, 720 N. Center St., Castle Dale, and on Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment, Orangeville City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Family and friends may sign the guest book and share memories of Christopher at www.fausettmortuary.com.
