High-speed chase results in injury and results

By By

At approximately 4:45 this morning, Emery County Sheriff Greg Funk and Adult Probation and Parole Officer Wade Allinson, dressed in plain clothes and headed out hunting, were fueling the Sheriffs personal vehicle in Ferron. Sheriff Funk was approached by an individual who asked him for money. He began asking the individual questions about his travels. He then identified himself as Sheriff and told the individual that he would get some help for them. The individual then began to act nervous and got back in his vehicle. The vehicle, containing two other individuals, then sped off.
Patrol deputies were dispatched and a high-speed chase began. The suspect vehicle stopped near the PacifiCorp Hunter Power Plant on SR 10, and one suspect bailed out and ran. The power plant was put on alert to watch for a suspicious person. The chase resumed on a gravel road where the suspect vehicle wrecked when it failed to negotiate an intersection. In the meantime, another patrol deputy was waived down by the suspect on foot when he failed to recognize the vehicle as law enforcement. He was arrested without incident.
One suspect was transported to the hospital with possible back injuries. The driver of the suspect vehicle was wanted on a warrant out of Texas for burglary, and the vehicle was confirmed as stolen out of Oklahoma. The three suspects were 19-20 years old.
