Cleveland: Kirk Jacobson, age 66, passed away in his home in Cleveland, Utah Nov. 11, 2014. He was born Nov. 10, 1948 to Harvey Charles Jacobson and Gwendolyn Johnson in Richfield, Utah. Kirk fell in love with Sherry Barrow and they were married in the Manti Temple on Sept. 29, 1973. They were blessed with four children; Charity, Landon, Laci and Alissa. They were married 27 wonderful years until Sherry’s passing in December 2000. Kirk later married Sue Lancaster in November of 2006 and they spent the next 8 years trying to keep up with their many grandchildren who were the highlight of his life.
Early in his career Kirk worked for the Forest Service. He later went to work for Central Warehouse, which brought him to Orangeville, Utah where he and Sherry raised their family. During their years in Orangeville, Kirk worked as the building inspector for Orangeville City and Emery County. He also loved his work as a member of the Emery County Search and Rescue. He later became the Building Official for Springville Planning and Zoning and was a member of the Utah Chapter ICC, which named him the Jess Miller Award recipient in 2011. Kirk retired in December 2010.
Kirk was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and had a strong testimony and love of the gospel. He served in many callings throughout his life. Perhaps the most rewarding calling was his work as a missionary along with his wife Sue in the Rapid City, South Dakota Mission from February 2012 to August 2013.
Kirk was an avid outdoorsman who took every opportunity he could to go golfing, camping, riding ATVs, hunting, and fishing, especially on Boulder Mountain which was his favorite place to go. The only thing he loved more than being outdoors was being outdoors with family and friends. Kirk was a loyal friend to all and treasured his relationships with those he loved. His family was the center of his life and he never missed any activities his grandkids were involved in.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sue; children Charity (Dean) Stilson, Landon (Heather) Jacobson, Laci (Travis) Tuttle, Alissa Pilling (Ted Allen); Step-children Laura (James) Merrill; Alisa (Don) Kranendonk; Darin (Cynthia) Lancaster; Paul (Shelly) Lancaster; Ryan (Audrey) Lancaster; mother-in-law Norma Dean Barrow; siblings Lonnie Jacobson; Dan (Janie) Jacobson; Craig (Darlene) Jacobson; Julie (Clair) Memmott; Brother-in-law Clyde (Carol) Barrow; Sister-in-law Arlene (Chad) Marsing; 34 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law George Barrow and his wife Sherry, who welcomed him with loving arms.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Cleveland LDS Chapel, 355 West 100 North. A viewing was held on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale, 720 North Center St., and on Saturday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services.
