The Emery County Sheriff’s Office received a call on Nov. 21 to investigate an unattended death. An 82 year old man was found in his home in the county. His home teachers made the call to the sheriff’s office.
Upon arrival at the home, the deputies could detect a suspicious smell in the home.
The home has propane appliances and the appliances are under investigation to determine if they were faulty.
The body has been sent to the Medical Examiners Office where the cause of death will be determined.
The man has a farm/residence in the county and his wife lives up north so she was not home at the time of the death.
Emery County Sheriff Greg Funk said, “The death is under investigation. We won’t have official reports back from the medical examiners office for at least two weeks. Meanwhile our investigators are giving the home an extensive examination and they are checking everything. They did detect a strange odor in the home and we are looking at the fridge as the possible source of the odor. We want everyone to realize that carbon monoxide is odorless. As the cold weather gets here, be aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide.”
