The Huntington City Council held their monthly city council meeting last Wednesday and the upcoming holidays were front and center in the meeting. Thanksgiving Thursday will kick off with the annual Turkey Trot 5K run that will start and finish at the City Park. The race will start at 8 am with registration starting one half hour earlier. Cost per runner is $7, each participant will receive a T-shirt.
The following week on Thursday December 4th, Huntington City will host the Annual City Christmas party at the Fire Station beginning at 6 pm. Santa Claus will arrive at 6:30 p.m. The city will serve soup, chili, scones and pie between 6 and 7:30 pm. All are invited to come and enjoy a night of fun and hangout with your friends.
The Council approved a business license for Palenque Gourmet Mexican Grill located at 190 South Main. The restaurant serves freshly made Mexican fare.
The Council also finally got Ordinance 3-2014 just as they wanted it and finally approved it. This ordinance deals with parking regulations within the city on city streets.
The ordinance clarifies what is legal and what is not. Residents will be given friendly reminders to help them comply with City Code. A written copy is posted at City Hall and has been posted around the city.
Councilman Jerry Livingston who is over the cemetery reported he has been working with the City Recorder, Jenene Hansen, on reclaiming burial plots at the cemetery that have not had perpetual fees paid in a very long time. There are sites that were purchased over 100 years ago that have not had all fees paid and nobody knows the family, where they are now or who they even were. There will be some plots that the city will eventually reclaim because no one still exists to use them.
Mark Justice reported the final improvements at the rodeo grounds are going well and the grounds will be fully functional next year. Mayor Hilary Gordon reported Nielson Construction is working away on the Huntington city trail that will go from the Emery County ball complex to Huntington Lake. The city’s portion ends on 400 East and north of the highway while the Emery County section goes on to the State Park.
