Sports stuff by Gary Arrington

The editor of this newspaper has wanted a sports column from me for quite some time, something I have produced many, many times during the past 20 some years. But for whatever the reason might be, I have not been capable of providing such a piece as requested.
It seems that every time I sit down to write that I go brain dead, I suddenly am incapable of having a thought. It seems that I no longer have an opinion that I am capable of sharing. This is foreign territory to me.
Those who know me are going no way, you without an opinion. I kind of have to agree with them, it does seem awfully strange that my opinions freeze up when I try to express them.
It is not as though there isn’t plenty to talk about, there is. Take for example the mess that the NFL finds itself in right now. No matter what your opinion might be on some of these issues, there is plenty to have an opinion about.
And then there was baseball, what a crazy playoff season that was. Nobody saw Kansas City capable of doing what they just did but yet they did it and they did it with strange characters just as San Francisco did but at least the Giants were not a surprise.
And then there was still high school football and the craziness at the end of the final game of the season for the Spartans and the Dinos. The game ended so suddenly that although I was right there I still wasn’t positive at what the heck had just happened.
As one can see, it is not for lack of material that has kept me on the sideline and out of the opinion business. And you would not believe me if I told you what just happened as this very time, my computer just shut down and restarted and I was thinking “are you kidding me?” but for whatever reason my stuff was not lost and it came right back to this page. Whew, Patsy was going to yell at me because once again I was not going to have an opinion.
In reality I still have plenty of opinions but just maybe this is God’s way of saying to me “keep it to yourself” or something like that. But I doubt that He would care really.
So next week I’ll be back and I will have a true opinion piece about something that is current or fairly current or at least something that I will want to share at the time. See you then.
