Eastern Utah Community Credit Union in Castle Dale has an Angel Tree. The names are from United Way. Stop by 125 East Main in Castle Dale and pick up a name(s).

Tree festival
It’s Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Emery Co. Recreation Building.
People can bring their trees and decorations at 8 a.m., and then from 11 a.m. ” 7:00 p.m. the trees can be bought. People have to bring their own transportation for the trees. Emery Co. Volunteer Center gets 10 percent of the sales (for Angel Tree), and the non-profit sellers get 90 percent of the sales.

Castle Dale DUP will hold their Christmas social on Monday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m. in the senior center. Lunch will be served and a fun program is planned. Don’t forget to bring a food item for the food bank.

Cleveland’s annual Christmas party and program
Cleveland town will hold its annual Christmas party on Wednesday, December 24th at 5 p.m. at the old town hall 35 S 100 W. There will be a short program, games, special performance by the Cleveland community band and the Griffins, light refreshments and of course Santa will make a special visit. Come and join our fun family holiday tradition.

Home Christmas Light Decoration Award: The Four Best Decorated Homes in Castle Dale will receive a certificate for their choice of a turkey or ham from Stewart’s Market. Judging will be on December 17th.
Huntington City annual Christmas party: Dec. 4 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the fire station on Main Street. Come see Santa and join us for a complimentary meal.
Ferron City: Dec 8 at 6 p.m. at the Fairgrounds. There will be a movie, hot cocoa and popcorn. Santa will be there.

Starting on Dec. 4 there will be a change to garbage pick up. The new pick up day is Thursday.
You can pay your city utility bill online at castledalecity.org. Call the city hall at 381-2115 to setup automatic payments.
A letter to Santa form can be picked up at the city hall or Castle Dale library by Dec. 9. You can pick up your letter from Santa the week before Christmas.

Stuffed animals needed
The Huntington Elementary Valentine’s Carnival is collecting donations of stuffed animals and any small toys in new/good condition for the carnival on Feb. 13. These items can be dropped off to the Huntington Elementary or the Emery County Progress office. As you clean your closets and get ready for the holidays remember your items can be put to good use at the carnival.

The “Emery County Centennial History Book” of 1996, written by Dr. Edward A. Geary, will now be on sale for only $6. Emery County’s three Museums will be happy to fill your order while you view all the new displays in each. The Officers of Emery County Historical Society: Suzanne, Pres., Lori Ann, VP Elect., Evelyn, Sec., and Joyce, Trea., will also be happy to take orders.
“We want to get these History Books into people’s hands, homes, and on their coffee tables”, says Sylvia Nelson, ECCHS Committee Chairman, “instead of in Museum closets.”
Emery County is one of few counties in Utah to still have any Centennial books.

Forest Service schedules tree permit sales
Christmas tree permits will be on sale at the Ferron/Price Ranger District office of the Manti-La Sal National Forest beginning Nov. 24 for $10 each. The office, located at 115 West Canyon Road, Ferron, is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For customer convenience, the Main Street Market, 15 W. Main Street, Ferron will also be selling permits. The cost for permits is the same regardless of where they are purchased.
There is a limit of three permits per person. To buy a permit for a tree taller than 8 feet, the purchaser must pay 50 cents per additional foot, payable when the permit is purchased. Purchasers will need to provide a debit or credit card, check or exact change. Forest Service offices are not equipped to make change. There are no refunds.
In addition, the Ferron/Price District will be selling tree permits through the mail. Customers should send a request for the permit, a self-addressed stamped envelope, provide their name, mailing address, phone number and a check for $10/per permit in an envelope marked “Attention: Christmas tree sales.” Checks should be made payable to: USDA Forest Service. A permit will be sent to them by return mail.
A purchaser may request authorization for trees taller than 8 feet (see above) as part of their mail order and include the additional costs in their check payment. Orders can be sent to Ferron/Price District Office, P.O. Box 310, Ferron, UT 84523; phone, 435-384-2372.
Permits will not be available by phone order.
The Ferron/Price District is east of Skyline Drive. The person selling permits will issue each purchaser a map and cutting instructions. Customers traveling long distances for permits should call in advance to determine if they are still available. Vehicle access, except for snow machines, must be confined to established roads on the Forest. Roads may be muddy, snow packed and slick. Be prepared for winter driving conditions.
Shoes for Love Organization
Miss Emery County and the Shoes for Love Organization need your help in a nationwide shoe drive. So many people go without a pair of shoes. Shoes for Love will deliver the collected shoes to these humble people in Africa and South America. Please send all used shoes to school with your student. All shoes are accepted. Drop box will be in the office of your school. Final collection will be in May. This is a competition between all elementary schools in the county; whoever collects the most shoes wins a party with the Miss Emery County Royalty.
